Who doesn’t love a cookie tin filled with ooey-gooey, yummy treats? If you have a spare cookie tin lying around (like the ones you just put away from Christmas), you can easily convert it into an appropriately decorated container for Valentine’s Day goodies. If you don’t have a cookie tin in your house, you can pick one up very cheaply at a thrift store or garage sale. To decorate the tin, you’ll need the following supplies:
- Sand paper or sanding block
- Paint (spray paint or acrylic)
- Paper (construction, old Valentine’s Day cards, scrapbook, painted/decorated cereal box cardboard)
- Glue (decoupage glue like Modge Podge, craft glue or hot glue gun)
You may already have these items in your house. If not, ask a friend or neighbor who might be kind enough to let you borrow paint or glue. The whole idea behind repurposeful is to make something from items you already own!
To decorate your tin, sand down the entire surface of the tin and lid until it is no longer shiny (this step allows the paint to adhere to the tin). Paint the tin and lid (you can leave the bottom unpainted) and let dry for 10-12 hours. Cut out paper, ribbon, etc. and embellish until your heart’s content!
