What does it mean to “upcycle?” According to Wikipedia, it is a “component of sustainability in which waste materials are used to provide new products.” It’s just like repurposing, but with a small twist. Upcycling often involves a certain level of creative ingenuity. For example, not just anyone can turn a metal pot into a stunning light fixture. And it takes a special someone to transform a garden hose into a basket.
The Etsy Trashion Blog is devoted entirely to crafters who make beautiful handmade goods from items like old t-shirts, vinyl records, vintage curtains, old magazines… the list goes on.
Point is folks, you can repurpose for profit! You can turn your trash into cash! (sorry, my infomercial voice slipped out) Frankly, I’m impressed by the talent I have seen out there and want to share it with my readers.
Do you or someone you know repurpose used items into beautiful crafts or artwork?
I want to know about it. Leave me a comment or e-mail me with a link to or photo of your handiwork. You could be featured on repurposeful‘s Weekly Spotlight–a new series that will showcase talented individuals who repurpose materials into profitable goods.
