As summer approaches and our house rapidly heats up even with the A/C on (we live in the hot-hot-South), my husband and I are finding our winter comforter all too warm at night. We deal with this problem every year and every year I swear that I will buy a lightweight quilt or blanket at the end of the summer season (you know, when they’re on sale?). And every year I never get around to it. And so, every summer we fight a nightly battle kicking off the covers, never finding the right temperature and waking up tired — and sweaty… or chilly. Perhaps I’m dramatizing the situation a little too much, but you get the point.
A couple of days ago I came up with a “duh” solution to our problem. We own two sets of flannel sheets. Wouldn’t a flannel top sheet (on top of our regular set of sheets) work perfectly as a summer blanket? Why yes, yes it would! We’ve tried it for two nights and so far, so good. I did get a teensy bit cool in the early morning hours, so last night I laid our folded comforter across my feet and that made it just right (says Goldilocks).
